ABOUT THIS VIDEO
"Hawai’i Aloha" features Hawai‘i’s top artists across many genres and youth from 10 charter schools in one epic song, recorded live across 27 locations on Oʻahu and Kauaʻi. It is a song of unity and Aloha ‘Aina - expressing love for one’s birthplace and home.
ABOUT THE SONG
"Hawaiʻi Aloha," also called "Kuʻu One Hanau," is a revered anthem of Hawaiʻi residents written by Lorenzo Lyons.
This song is typically sung in both small and large, formal and informal gatherings, both in Hawaiʻi and abroad, while participants stand in a circle with joined hands. Traditionally, the last chorus is sung with hands raised above heads; the act of raising hands is especially important to advocates of the Hawaiian sovereignty movement.
